Pro-hunt; anti-heritage

Pro-hunt campaigners have been at it again - this time spraying graffiti on an ancient monument in Somerset reports the BBC.

The Bronze Age cairns at Dunkery Beacon - Exmoor’s highest point - have been daubed with pro-hunting graffiti and a viewpoint indicator has been damaged.

The words "no hunt-no deer" were sprayed over the cairns, between mid-afternoon on Sunday and early Monday morning.

A spokesman for the National Trust, which owns the land and monuments, says the damage is a devastating blow to the heritage of Exmoor.

Removing the black and orange paint will be costly and time-consuming for the trust.

Police are appealing for anyone who was near the summit of Dunkery between 1500GMT on Sunday and dawn on Monday to come forward.

The Megalithic Portal has previously reported the attacks on the Maen Llia standing stone and the Uffington White Horse also believed to have been perpetrated by pro-hunt supporters.

These people have absolutely no values or morals, hence why they torture foxes with bloodhounds in the first place.

I've never been a supporter of bloodsports - but I found seeing these sanctimonious toff protesters covered in THEIR OWN blood outside Westminster strangely satisfying.

Support bloodsports - baton a pro-hunt protester!

Perhaps these vandals should hear about what happened to a tourist who took one of the stones from the Clava Cairns.
I for one am very respectful of ancient sites you just never know.

I find it appalling, here in Australia I recently had a discussion with
an active peace campaigner who argued that it would be a good
thing to have a mass spraying of Uluru (formerly known as Ayers
Rock), one of the most significant sacred sites for the Indigenous
people of Australia. Her argument was that the historical and
spiritual significance to one group was outweighed by the social
needs of today!

What a bizarre argument - there can be no excuse for the action in the UK or in Australia (if it were to go ahead) irrespective of the cause.

You don't have to destroy or deface history to make a statement - unless you're as ignorant as a pro-hunt protester.

Once again this is an outrage and shows we must all be vigilant at ancient sites if anyone is to be successfully prosecuted for the damage they cause.
