Without this sort of incremental updating the Megalithic Portal would soon go the way of the ill-fated England's Rock Art site (remember that?) operated by the considerably better resourced Archaeology Data Service. (*)
We have done a lot of work behind the scenes on converting characters for full extended / international character support via UTF-8, including emojis etc. We did have extended character support previously but it was not working in a standard way. This helps to future proof the Portal for many more updates.
We also needed to tidy up some broken characters, especially in Japanese. I am extremely grateful in particular to Jan H, and also Martin F and Aska for their help with the migration. We are confident we have fixed the critical issues with the characters. I am aware of display errors in the map pop-up box labels when international characters are used. I need to fix these but I didn't want to hold up the transfer due to this.
Other than that if you do notice any errors in characters, text or anything else please let me know.
Thanks for all your support and please carry on uploading photos and submitting all the incredibly useful information you find on your travels and desktop research. I hope the speed up and reassurance that we are here for the 'longue durée' will encourage you to contribute.
Finally by way of a test, here are some sheep: 🐑🐑🐑 (thanks Alan!) 🙂
