Canrooska Stone Row
Canrooska Stone Row submitted by frogcottage42 : Looking roughly West. This alignment is only 4 or 5 metres from the stone circle at W 9354,5820 and is typical of this kind of relationship (see Cashelkeelty or Uragh NE) I noticed that on 27th Feb the moon rise and the sun set were simultaneously in line with these stones and a line perpendicular to that pointed straight at a standing stone at W 9345,5760. The stone row is recorded as monument CO090-006001-.
On bog-covered S-facing slope of S extension Barraboy mountain. Row of three stones, aligned ENE_WSW. Stone at NE is 0.7m L, 0.3m T and 0.4m H. Middle stone is 0.7m L, 0.3m T and 0.7m H. SW stone is prostrate; it would have been the tallest of the three. It is 4m x 1.1m and 0.5m T.

Part of the complex also comprises of Cairn (CO090-00603-) c. 7m to S. Roughly oval-shaped cairn (7.5m x 5m; H 1m) partly covered in peat and a five stone circle (CO090-006002-). Four stones survive measuring 0.8m to 1.3m L, 0.2m T and 0.45m to 1m H; N entrance stone leans heavily inwards. Internal measurement along main axis, aligned NE-SW, is 2.3m.

The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 1: West Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1992).
