Hill Of Tara conservation group to state case

Site WatchCountry: Ireland (Republic of) Campaigners against a motorway planned to route close to the historic Hill Of Tara are to have an opportunity to address the Oireachtas Transport Committee. The Save Tara Skryne Valley Group, which is again the construction of the M3 motorway close to the ancient seat of Irish and pre-Celtic kings, had initially been denied permission to address their concerns to the Oireachtas group because their terms of reference were too broad.Dáil deupty Róisín Shorthall and Senator David Norris petitioned on behalf of the group, which will now make its presentation on Wednesday.
The proposed motorway route has outraged conservationists and drawn sharp criticism from abroad as well as within the Republic of Ireland. The site of the Hill Of Tara is of immense archaeological and historic significance and is central to many traditional Irish sagas.
According to the group`s spokesperson Muireann Ní Bhrolcháin “The scale of international opposition is swelling every day (but we) are not ‘anti-roads’.
"(people) are simply outraged at the proposed destruction of Tara, and would feel the same if it were a landing strip or a cheese factory that was being proposed.”
