Authority pledges full consultation on quarry proposals

Local communities will be fully consulted if planning applications to extend New Pilhough Quarry (to the north of Stanton Moor) and build a new haul road are to be considered, the Peak District National Park Authority has promised. Wingerworth-based quarry company Block Stone has already held an informal public meeting to consult residents of Stanton-in-Peak, near Matlock, and surrounding villages near the quarry site.

The Authority received the applications on December 22 and is currently assessing their validity.

If they are considered valid, interested parties including parish councils would be consulted in line with normal practice prior to the Authority’s Planning Committee reaching any decisions. The applications are accompanied by environmental statements.

The proposed haul route passes to the north of Stanton-in-Peak, linking the quarry to the B5056.

A second application proposes two extensions to the north and south of the existing New Pilhough Quarry. The company is proposing to give up, without compensation, their rights to work the remainder of the nearby Stanton Moor Quarry.

The National Park Authority will issue a further public statement early in the New Year, once the validity of the applications has been assessed.

Please do everything in your power to stop this rape of a sascred and magical landscape. This place means so much to so many people and has done for at least 4000 years. Now is the time to stand up and be counted - do you want this destruction to happen? The only way it will not happen is if people stand up and make their objections known and heard. We have the power to stop this and must do absolutely everything to make sure no new roads or larger quarries ever get near to the moor.
I would die for this place and will be at the front if action is required - will you?
Please support the protest site with food, visits and positive thoughts and please write to anyone that will listen (particularly the National Peak Park Authority, English Heritage, Block Stone, the Environment Ministry etc etc).

This is our problem - nobody else will do anything.

Love to everyone with thoughts of the Ladies and a warm hug to everyone else . . .
