Plans have been unveiled to erect four giant monoliths, each three metres high, in the points of a compass on an ancient hill in Crick. The stones will be precarved with symbols, designs and names of local people, and will have tiny reflectors to bounce off sunlight from dawn till dusk. Lasers will also be beamed on to the reflectors during special events to create a dazzling spectacular light show.

Rugby artist Pete Thornley, who came up with the idea more than a year ago, said: "There has not been a standing stone circle built in England for many hundreds, if not thousands of years, so to be part of something like this is amazing.

I like the idea of the lasers bouncing off crystalline pieces, I once was dazzled by the sun sparkling off one of the Merry Maidens.

As one of the builders of the stone circle at Grewelthorpe i was very surprised to find that I am thousands of years old.
I can recommend a visit to Limetree farm to anyone but then of course I am biased

I have always wondered what makes just 4 stones a circle. Surely just 4 stones much more closely represent a square or rectangle. It has always struck me a bit odd that all those Scottish 4 posters are grouped in with what I shall flippantly call proper stone circles.



And yes, many many stone circles have been built since the bronze age. Including a few on the various roundabouts and nearby landscaping of the north Bristol ringroad. What nonsense this chap is spouting. Perhaps he should get himself out and become part of a road building gang, and be amazed much more often.

Peter Thornley is wrong. There have been many stone circles built in modern times. Why don't people find out the facts first?

Visit Lime Tree Farm Grewelthorpe N Yorks to see a brand new stone circle of glorious proportions. We have been building them ever since the bronze age not just before and during . . .
