Country: England County: Surrey Type: Modern Stone Circle etc

Internal Links:

There are two modern stone circles in Southern England. The first is at Pyrford, near West Byfleet, Surrey. It stands in the grounds of Temple Organics.

John Temple constructed the circle using cardinal points and uses it to empower his oils etc which he uses for healing. The stone stand about 12 - 18" tall, they appear to be granite.

The second circle is at Holyport, near Maidenhead, Berkshire. It was constructed for the Millennium celebrations and can just be seen from the Maidenhead to Bracknell road. I have not taken a close look as I noticed it originally when it was being constructed and again, just a few days ago. If I can get further information about it, I will place it onsite. The stones look to stand about 4 - 5 feet tall and appear to be lighter coloured than granite.

Another at Ramsdell : 51d18'51.46"N 1d09'22.49"W [actually at SU 5891457590 - https://www.megalithic.co.uk/article.php?sid=55258 - AB]

I cannot locate the one at Holyport.

Straight lines connect all of these modern scs to Stonehenge, Marden Henge and Sh/Avebury.

The stone circle in Pyrford http://www.megalithic.co.uk/article.php?sid=18515 was originally discovered in Wales, then transported stone by stone and reconstructed by Jack Temple, who sadly passed away a year ago after a car accident. The stone circle still stands in the grounds, which now form part of a nursery school, and is clearly visible if you walk or drive down Pyrford Road.

I'm sure the owners would not mind if you called and asked to take a closer look. It also contains a 'maze' that you can follow which Jack Temple designed for its healing powers. But please call and ask permission as a childrens nursery would be worried if a stranger showed up and started wandering around its front doors. It IS private property.

Phillip Temple (his grandson)

Another new site in the south east is near Guilford, at Hascombe. It was built by the Megalithic Order of Druids, over nearly 2 years, using only people power and wooden posts and logs. It has 18 stones, average weight @9 tons, and marks important solar and lunar rising and setting points. It is actually adjacent to a public footpath,so is easily visitable.
The MODs are currently making another circle in South -west Wales, in the Prescelli mountain area. The next session is April 20-29th, if you would like to know more, please email to [email protected]. We are also planning another circle in the Swansea area in July.

Last September (2001), a new circle was completed on private land at Beech Hill, near Nutley in the Ashdown Forest, under the auspices of Ivan McBeth and MODs, again without using machinery. It used limestone megaliths from Portland Bill, and the largest, an outlier aligned to the North Star, weighed in at just under 9 tons.
