TheCaptain visited on 3rd May 2022 - their rating: Cond: 3 Amb: 3 Access: 2 Walk north over Merripit Hill and on via Stannon Newtake to look for this cairn with cist, which is easily found. The cist is a bit overgrown and I can only see one side of it, but the surrounding semi circle of large stones is in fine condition.

A Bronze Age cairn with a good stone ring and cist.

Update December 2019: This cist is featured on the Prehistoric Dartmoor Walks (PDW) website - see their entry for the Stannon Little Newtake Ring Setting Cairn and Cist.

The cairn is also recorded as Pastscape Monument No. 443801, as MDV6616 (Cairn 570 metres north-east of Stannon Farmstead) on the Devon and Dartmoor HER, and scheduled as part of Historic England List Entry No. 1021339 (Coaxial fields, prehistoric settlement, two cairns and a stone alignment in Little Stannon Newtake, 900m south east of Stannon Tor).
