Sittaford Tor pound
Sittaford Tor pound submitted by TheCaptain : An oval shaped enclosure, defined by embanked rubble walls. The walls are best seen where the old leat cuts through them on the western side. (Vote or comment on this photo)
This enigmatic monument consists of an oval shaped enclosure, about 50 metres east west by 40 metres north to south, defined by embanked rubble walls, up to a metre high and spread to a couple of metres in width.

The walls are best seen where the old leat cuts through them on the western side. There is a possible entrance on the eastern side.

This monument has been described elsewhere (including pastscape) as a possible henge, but there is no evidence of an internal ditch, and is fairly typical of this type of Dartmoor monument.

Update December 2019: This settlement is featured on the Prehistoric Dartmoor Walks (PDW) website - see their entry for the Sittaford Tor Pound. It is also recorded as Pastscape Monument No. 443917, as MDV6754 (Pound 320 metres south-east of the Grey Wethers stone circles) on the Devon and Dartmoor HER, and scheduled as part of Historic England List Entry No. 1018707 (Two stone circles known as The Grey Wethers, three round cairns, two ring cairns and an oval enclosure in Great Stannon Newtake).
