The row is about 1,300m from the car park. A map or reliable GPS device is highly recomended. Well worth the walk.

Hurston Ridge
Hurston Ridge submitted by Bladup : The North East end of Hurston Ridge stone rows. (Vote or comment on this photo)
This fine double stone row lies approximatly NE/SW on a ridge at the south end of Chagford Common. It is best reached by parking near the Warren House Inn and walking up Water Hill, then follow the reave in a North Westerly direction.

The cairn end of the row comes into view first as the row runs down hill, it is cut partway down by the wall of a Bronze Age enclosure which contains the remains of 7 huts. It is adouble row containing 99 stones in 49 pairs with a blocking stone at the opposite end to the cairn, and well worth a visit.

This stone alignment is recorded as Pastscape Monument No. 443788. It also features on the Stone Rows of Great Britain website - see their entry for Hurston Ridge, which includes a description, photographs, a plan of the row, and the viewpoints which become visible (then disappear) along the length of the row.

Update November 2019: Prehistoric Dartmoor Walks (PDW) includes two entries for this site; the first is for the Hurston Ridge Standing Stone. The second is for the Hurston Ridge Stone Row.

The stone row is also recorded as MDV6541 (Hurston Ridge Stone Row, Chagford) on the Devon and Dartmoor HER, and scheduled as Historic England List Entry No. 1019577 (Stone alignment, cairns, enclosed prehistoric settlement and a length of reave on Hurston Ridge).

Hurston Ridge
Hurston Ridge submitted by SandyG : A Middle Bronze Age enclosure was built across the row presumably after it was abandoned. The large recumbent stones form part of the enclosure boundary. It is perhaps interesting to note that these stones are bigger than those used to build the row. (16th May 2015).
