Sherberton Row
Date Added: 2nd Oct 2020
Site Type: Stone Row / Alignment
Country: England (Devon)
Visited: Yes on 11th Apr 2019. My rating: Condition 2 Ambience 3 Access 3

Sherberton Row submitted by TheCaptain on 14th Apr 2019. I found very little remains of this stone row, to the north of the Sherberton stone circle. A few little stumps of stone could be found, but not enough to determine either end, or even whether it is a single or double row. I counted 11 stones.
Viewed here looking north along the best part of about 5 stones in line.

Site Type: Stone Circle
Country: Scotland (Aberdeenshire)
Visited: Yes on 27th Jul 2017
Sheldon (Aberdeenshire) submitted by TheCaptain on 27th Jul 2017. Despite having seen nice pictures of this stone circle, it was a big let down. To get to it meant a longish walk through firstly a manure dump, and after that a field full of growing root vegetables, meaning a wet detour along the tractor tramlines to get to the top of the hill.

Country: England (Devon)

Sharpitor W submitted by thecaptain on 18th Jun 2004. Sharpitor West Stone Row, Dartmoor, Devon SX551707
On the western slopes of Sharpitor are the remains of a nice stone row. The row starts near a cairn at the uphill end, and proceeds for 130 metres southwest down the slope to a large terminal stone, about 4 feet high. Just before this lower terminal stone, a spring and its small stream has broken through the row, and taken out some of the stones.
This is a view of the bottom end.

Log Text: On the way back to Haytor, I stop to go and look at Seven Lords' Lands cairn with its large encircling ring of stones. Its really splendid here in the low sun, which occasionally peeps through the clouds. Now to the Rock Inn after a tiring day on the big moor, I sat quietly nursing a pint in the snug when Dave from Royle Family comes in with wife and dog, and sits next to me.

Log Text: Several barrows, cairns and tumuli marked at the top ridge of Selwrthy Beacon. Upon visiting in August 2024, most were obscured below the colourful heather and gorse on the top of this fabulous hill, but several lumps and bumps could be nade out. There is a road and car park up to the top of the beacon, but it is much better appreciated if you make the walk up from Bossington, Selworthy or around the coast path. Tremendous views all around from the top of the beacon with Wales and the Bristol Channel to the north, the fabulous north Somerset coast beyond Porlock to the west, and the heights of Exmoor to the south.
