Uragh NE
Date Added: 28th Feb 2011
Site Type: Stone Circle
Country: Ireland (Republic of) (Co. Kerry)
Visited: Yes. My rating: Condition 4 Ambience 5 Access 3
Log Text: My favourite place on Earth! This has got to be the most beautiful setting for any site. Access can be difficult if it has been raining since crossing a bog is essential to getting there. Take wellies and expect them to get pulled off your feet
I question the stone circle title as it appears to be much more akin to a collapsed cairn. Nevertheless it oozes ambience and the scenery is second to none.

Site Type: Stone Circle
Country: Ireland (Republic of) (Co. Kerry)
Visited: Yes. My rating: Condition 4 Ambience 2 Access 4
Log Text: Is it just me ??? something just does not feel right about this place. It is too perfect. Quite a few of the stones are weathered and eroded, others feel almost like they rolled out of the sea last week and into position. I heard a rumour in a local pub that lottery money aided some restoration. It is certainly a good tourist attraction
Ardgroom Stone Circle
Date Added: 27th Feb 2011
Site Type: Stone Circle
Country: Ireland (Republic of) (Co. Cork)
Visited: Yes. My rating: Condition 3 Ambience 4 Access 3
Log Text: Wonderful views which give a feeling of how it was for the "ancients" dificult for disabled. Now has styles, but ground very uneven and can be boggy.
Little Urchany
Date Added: 27th Feb 2011
Site Type: Clava Cairn
Country: Scotland (Highlands)
Visited: Yes on 27th Feb 2011. My rating: Condition 2 Ambience 3 Access 3
Log Text: The actual cairn cannot be seen from the road but field clearance gives the impression of a cairn. Only when you have walked to the top of the hill can you see the real cairn in the next field. Condition not good, access not great, but still worth a visit.

Date Added: 27th Feb 2011
Site Type: Cairn
Country: Scotland (Moray)
Visited: Yes on 26th Feb 2011. My rating: Access 3
Log Text: I tried access to this site but was more than thoroughly discouraged by the farmer on who's land it is situated. Despite right to roam I was told that crops, cattle and swampy mud would prevent access. Further questioning about condition etc was met by blank stares. I intend to try again from a different direction.
Cumberland's Stone
Date Added: 27th Feb 2011
Site Type: Natural Stone / Erratic / Other Natural Feature
Country: Scotland (Highlands)
Visited: Yes. My rating: Condition 5 Ambience 2 Access 5
Log Text: This stone has no real prehistoric history other than it is just one of thousands of glacial remains. Historically it is of course the famous Cumberland stone, but the only ambience it can offer is the thought that it has seen so much history.
Cloutie Well
Date Added: 26th Feb 2011
Site Type: Holy Well or Sacred Spring
Country: Scotland (Highlands)
Visited: Yes on 8th Jan 2011. My rating: Condition 4 Ambience 5 Access 3
Log Text: As Cloutie wells go this one is superb. Easily seen from the roadside it is a major tourist attraction. Sadly some people ignore advice to NOT leave nylon or other non-degradable materials and so the site has become a bit of an eyesore. It is though a fascinating place to visit and has a definate ambience. The spring runs into a cistern and away under the road. Getting close to the wellhead would be extremly difficult for disabled persons.

Site Type: Standing Stone (Menhir)
Country: Scotland (Highlands)
Visited: Yes. My rating: Condition 4 Ambience 2 Access 4
Log Text: I pass this site regularly. If one dosn't mind fighting the crowds of shoppers, workers and tourists it makes interesting viewing in the middle of a busy town center. Incidently the stone is just a few yards from the excellent inverness museum

Date Added: 26th Feb 2011
Site Type: Standing Stone (Menhir)
Country: Scotland (Highlands)
Visited: Yes on 26th Feb 2011. My rating: Condition 4 Ambience 3 Access 3
Log Text: This stone is less than 10 mins from my home i see it everyday in all types of climate. It has always struck me as being a "lonely" stone. Easily seen from the roadside but close examination often impossible due to barley crop in the field.

Date Added: 25th Feb 2011
Site Type: Stone Circle
Country: Scotland (Highlands)
Visited: Yes on 27th Nov 2010. My rating: Condition 3 Ambience 2 Access 5
Log Text: For a site that is right in the middle of a housing estate it is pretty good. Perhaps it's very existance owes itself to close proximity of watchful neighbours
