Maintained by Historic England and the Peak National Park Authority, Doll Tor is a delightful little stone circle consisting of six standing stones, no more than a metre in height, with an adjoining cairn. The circle is approximately 6m by 4.5m in diameter with five stones of similar size and height, and one smaller wider one. It is surrounded on three sides by trees, but there are wonderful views to the west across the valley and hills beyond.

Shortly before the spring equinox in 1993 there was an incorrect reconstruction by persons unknown. During this tampering, the circle was wrongly changed to consist of fourteen standing stones with much of the eastern cairn removed to form a stone bank over three sides of the cairn’s central setting. Having been recently restored by English Heritage and the Peak National Park Authority, the site is seen today as it would have been originally in the Bronze Age.

After a recent visit, I was disappointed to find at least 2 of the stones in need of repair. In 1931 during Heathcote's "Excavation" 2 stone's were mysteriously broken and cemented back together. The cement is now cracking and the stones WILL soon be in pieces - Shaun.

Note: Reports that Doll Tor has been vandalised, with a number of stones lifted out of their sockets. Derbyshire Police and Historic England's Heritage Crime unit are on the case. Can you help?

Does anyone know if the Andle stone is visible (through the trees) from Doll Tor circle?

Pleased to find Doll Tor essentially unchanged when revisited in April 2022 despite the vandalism referred to, so well done whoever was involved in the restoration. The only problem for me was the abundance of 'New Age' nonsense left around the stones, and inappropriate big plastic-based 'clouties' in neighbouring trees.

Note that the fields around the Andle Stone that provide the easiest access had all been ploughed and a cereal crop sown, so access currently not just as easy as it was.

My heart is kind of breaking that that news, i can't believe people can do such awful things to such beautiful and sacred places.

I understand that many of you here find deep meaning or connection with the Doll Tor stones and wondered if i might be able to ask you all, what this place means to you and why does it hold importance?

For me, Doll Tor is one of the most mysterious sites I have visited.

Re: Doll Tor by Anonymous on Thursday, 04 June 2020
I just want to say I was the person who first discovered the vandalism at the site. Cairn stones had been removed in order to build 3 separate fire pits in and around the circle. A large boulder was dragged from outside of the circle and used as a Bench. The cairn stones were burnt and some cracked from the heat and left in a pile. I attempted to replace the stones into the voids that were left and moved the boulder back to its original position. I also tried to remove any evidence of the fires. I'm aware moving the stones isn't ideal but I wasn't just going to leave them piled up
