A stone approximately 4 feet out of the ground on an 'island' created by cattle erosion around the base, suggesting at least 2 feet more in unseen below the surface. Not sure of the provenance of this large slab? it could be a boundary stone or may be associated with nearby Cairns.
[Note: from the grid reference given by dooclay, the menhir lies within a scheduled area, described by Historic England List ID 1021215, "Part of a coaxial field system, prehistoric settlements and cairns on Buttern Hill".]
