A line of bricks was also uncovered, but members of the amateur group are in the dark as to what kind of building they might once have been part of and have sent photographs to professional county council archaeologists in a bid to get the structure identified.
The dig has now come to a temporary halt as the field needs to be ploughed and sown with next year's crop.
But project leader Mike Rees said the exciting finds meant the group would be sure to return to Tollesbury in 2004.
