Tolkien's descriptions of landscapes are so vivid that you can clearly see the places of Middle-earth as you read his books. So much so, that often you feel that you have been there yourself. Peter Jackson had to go to New Zealand to find locations for his Lord of the Rings films, but there is an alternative Middle-earth waiting to be found among the 9000 photographs on the Megalithic Portal.

A sub category of the Spirit of Place Gallery,the Middle-earth Gallery is a temporary exhibition of photographs that suggest places in the many varied lands of Middle-earth. A few pictures have been put into this Gallery, but now we invite you to make your own suggestions. When you see a suitable photograph on the Portal ( or a picture from our Art Gallery ) just add a comment saying that you choose it for Middle-earth. Then simply indicate which place in Middle-earth you think it resembles - Hobbiton, Rohan, Bree, Gondor, Mordor etc.
