Pentre Ifan
Pentre Ifan submitted by Horatio : A year later and back at Pentre Ifan for the solstice sunset, all on my own some (apart from a 13yr old Jack Russell this time) I Was expecting at least to see one other (person not Jack Russell) at this site for the sunset. Continuing the catch-up of our photo competitions, we are delighted to announce the winners for the best images submitted to the Megalithic Portal in past months. As we are now into 2020 with the photo competition announcements we have split the year into four parts, so here are the winners for photos submitted to us between April and June 2020. As always these were all voted for by you, our visitors and contributors. Votes are still being registered for all photos submitted since the above dates and we will be announcing more winners soon.
1st Prize: Pentre Ifan by Horatio (Lee)
2nd Prize: Stonehenge by SteveC (Steve Cooke)
3rd Prize: Hjulgraven i Hjordkær by SBA_DK (Sonny)
View the photos below.

1st Prize: Pentre Ifan by Horatio

Taken at the Solstice sunset in June 2020. Horatio has also posted images of the 2019 and 2021 summer solstice sunsets - head over to our Pentre Ifan page to enjoy them too!

2nd Prize: Stonehenge by SteveC

Steve's drone photo captures Stonehenge in its magnificent setting, beautifully set off by the morning mist.

3rd Prize: Hjulgraven i Hjordkær by SBA_DK

This fascinating site is a Neolithic Wheel-Grave in Denmark, with a diamater of 9 - 10 metres. For more information on the site, head over to our site page.

Highly Commended: Aubrey Burl at the Rollright Stones by Angie Lake

Almost two years now since Dr Burl's death, RIP.

Highly Commended: Housesteads Roman Fort by JeffRep

Yes we do now cover Roman period sites and we would very much like more photos and site submissions.

Highly Commended: Züschen Galeriegrab by Martin L

The decorated face of the 'Soul hole' in this 20 meter long chambered tomb in Hesse

Thanks as always to everyone who voted and entered and especially thanks to Peter Boyle (PAB) for organising the competitions.

How to Enter

All the images submitted to the Megalithic Portal have a chance to win by being voted on by you, the Megalithic Portal visitors and contributors. See below for more details.

PLEASE VOTE!

There is still time to vote in the next photo competition. You can browse and choose photos to vote for in our Photo Gallery. See the drop down box near the top to select photos from recent months, then click "Update". You are very welcome to browse back further to previous years and vote on any photos you like at any time. We will be announcing the results of the next competitions soon.

Please do vote and comment on any photos that particularly catch your eye. You can score photos for visual or archaeological merit or for any other reason you like. A vote from any person will start off the scoring. You are allowed to vote for each of your own photos once if you would like to put them forward. Equally you do not have to have your photos rated or voted on if you don't want to. Please contact Andy B via the 'Contact Editor' link if you do not want to take part.

More details on our photo competitions are here.

* Although we say 'photos' we also include other types of image relevant to our subject such as diagrams, paintings and other artwork that you have created.

Well-deserved winners, and thank you for the 'highly commended'. Am sure the votes were more because of the subject than the photo!
