Rothberg’s work has been featured on the covers of the leading scientific journals including Science, Nature, and Cell. Very few scientists have done that, so he is not only a scientist, but very accomplished.

In fact, his Nature article this September was the major breakthrough in sequencing genomes, featured in news papers around the world, and now becoming the new standard at laboratories. Allowing any Genome to be easily sequenced. That will change the way you go to your Doctors office. This guy basically did put genome sequencing on a "chip". The equivalent of putting transistors on a chip for computing. He should win the National Medal of technology for this.

If you check, you will see he is also a member of the National Academy of Engineering and serves on the board of Carnegie Mellon University. Plus he uses his money to fund other scientists working on childhood diseases, so he has his head on pretty straight.

    You are quite correct, Angie. Just another example of sloppy language. Note that the guy with the fake Stonehenge is reported to be a "scientist"!

      Dr. Rothberg has a Ph.D. in biology from Yale University, is the founder of a biotechnology company, and is "actively involved in the development of accelerated research for tuberous sclerosis complex," according to the Office of Public Affairs at Yale. So I think most people would consider him a scientist.

Sad - very sad. They abuse, ignore, detract and destroy their own Native American monuments and then build tacky concrete imitations of ours.

    It doesn't compare to the original Stonehenge, of course, but at least it isn't concrete. According to the article, it's made of 700 tons of Blue Pearl Norwegian granite, and was constructed with astronomical alignments in mind.

      Yep, the stone itself is lovely, but why make it so perfectly square? It looks so unnatural and out-of-character, like concrete breeze-blocks.

      The bit that made me laugh (puke?) was that they got Dr. Anthony Aveni, professor of anthropology and astronomy at Colgate University, to lay out a plan that would chart sunrise and sunset on the first day of the seasons and other celestial events, along with the Rothberg children's birthdays.

      He is a well respected archaeoastronomer, and author of a book on the Nazca Lines (link to our online shop - it's halfway down that page).
