Site WatchRecent archaeological work at Ladybridge in the threatened Thornborough landscape would suggest that an application for planning permission for gravel extraction is imminent. With this in mind, The Friends of Thornborough have decided to hold a live public debate to "decide" the future of Ladybridge.
We are very well aware that this particular site is seemingly far from the henges and thus many have questioned exactly why we are against quarrying here.
Well, we intend to put our case before public scrutiny, initially just the basic need for quarrying, and the archaeological perspective are planned for open debate at this time. Since Tarmac have yet to submit specific plans, the other issues will need to wait until after that time.
We have decided to hold this event on the Channel 4 Time Team Friends Forum.
The debate to started today (Thursday 23 October 2003), so if you are not already registered, you may wish to do so.
This particular venue was chosen simply as it is a well moderated public space with a good mix of regular attendees, plus the ability to post links to websites.
The Friends of Thornborough has no links with C4 (although many of us wish Time Team would come visit!).
Viewers are presented with as much factual information as possible, and will be asked to vote on Ladybridges future based on Government and Council
guidelines.
It is hoped that by doing this we can stimulate a better informed body of opinion about Ladybridge, and also check that our own thinking is along the
right lines. Who knows, perhaps others will dig out examples that may help our case in future.
I expect the debate to last a week or so. First vote will be one week from today.
So come on - put yourself in the shoes of a Planning official.
P.S. There is no need to register to view the forum. Members who wish to ask questions but are unable to register may send them to me for posting on
their behalf. There are also other members of the Friends of Thornborough who are registered on the C4 website so if you are desperate and can't get me, try asking the group.
