An archaeology team at the Southern Taiwan Science Park recently unearthed an iron sword that dates back 1,500 years ago. The sword, which was discovered in a plot of land used in a factory by Chi Mei Optoelectronics, is 60 centimeters long and comes from the ancient Niaosong culture period in Taiwan. The head of the archaeological team, Chu Cheng-yi, said on Thursday that the sword was a funeral item that was buried with an 18-year-old male at the time. It is also the largest ancient iron sword unearthed on Taiwan to date.

Chu Cheng-yi said that the archaeological team in May of last year unearthed another iron sword, but its length was about 33 centimeters. The sword was placed next to the remains of the body of a male in his grave. At the time, both the body and sword were dug up. In the latest discovery, another grave for a male was discovered about 50 or 60 meters away from the original grave. This is where the latest sword was discovered.
