Sunfinder

Modern SitesIf you are interested in aligning your sacred site or labyrinth towards the sun rise or set on a specific day of the year -(for example - the Summer Solstice, the Celtic Holiday of Samhain, a Saint's Day, or even your birthday or wedding anniversary), at any latitude North of the Equator, and at any elevation to the horizon, try Mid-Atlantic Geomancy's new Sunfinder.
This will give you information on what relatively simple tools you will need to do this, where to get them, the Sunfinder itself, and the astronomical formulas we have used.
Sunfinder is written in JavaScript, and can be downloaded on to a laptop. It can then be taken out into the field, and used there! While we have not yet written the code to make it work below the Equator, and for dates prior to the birth of Christ, as the azimuth of the rising and setting Sun hasn't moved that much in the last five thousand years (Stonehenge still works), you can also take Sunfinder to an ancient site, and see if out-riding stones or notches in hills offer significant alignments to the Quarter or Cross-Quarter Days - or any other day of the year. This is an important tool for anyone interested in archaeoastronomy or in easily aligning their new sacred site to a significant Solar rise or set.
