Neolithic and Bronze Age

<< News >>

Student-produced /Silbury Hill/, the latest video featured by our public education website, The Archaeology Channel poses gnawing questions about this huge and enigmatic Neolithic mound constructed of chalk.

Standing an impressive 40 meters (130 ft) high and 30 meters (100 ft) across its flat top, Silbury Hill is the largest artificial mound in Europe. Though built by Stone Age people around 4,500 years ago, it still dominates the landscape. It contains a quarter of a million cubic meters of chalk, the equivalent of 35 million basket loads, all carried by hand. Archaeologists are still trying to uncover its secrets after 200 years of research and speculation. Why and how was this baffling monument built and who had the power to organize its construction?

This and other programs are available on TAC for your use and
enjoyment.
