Friday 10th, Saturday 11th, and Sunday 12th February mark the Second Megalithic Meet of the year taking in some of the best sites of Shropshire (and some lesser known), the Brenig trail in Denbighshire, and south east Anglesey (with others beside!). The meet is being held to help mark a significant birthday of a transatlantic megalith lover! Megalithic Meets are open to any responsible persons, and can be joined in for as much, or as little as time and needs dictate. Please read on, and get in touch if you decide to join in for any part.

Friday 10th February

Meet 10am Church Stretton train Station
Up on to the Long Mynd Devil's Mouth Bronze Age Cross Dyke with views across to Caer Caradoc, & Bodbury Ring Iron Age Hillforts.

Drive on to Bury Ditches - arguably the best Shropshire Hillfort...

Whitcott Keysett Standing Stone - now fallen, but allegedly still there; once Shropshire's tallest Standing Stone

SO192876 Upper Short Ditch Bronze Age Cross Dyke
SO222880 Lower Short Ditch Bronze Age Cross Dyke

Grey Stones Stone Circle; likely destroyed, but as we are in the area, it'll be worth looking at the context of the monument
Possibly Kerry Hill Stone Circle

Drive on to Stapeley Hill etc, ending Friday at a veritable prehistoric feast: Mitchell's Fold, The Hoarstones and lots of others.

Saturday 11th

Drive up A483 then A5 to Brenig Archaeological Trail; lots to see, such as Boncyn Arian Round Barrow (Brenig 45); Brenig Ringcairn, Brenig 44, Brenig Mesolithic Camp SH985576 and the Platform Cairn SH989566 N of Hen Ddinbych, Brenig 14 SH98365617, Brenig 46 SH98585691, Brenig 8 SH98805636, Brenig 6 SH99525631, the Glacial Erratic Maen Cleddau, and probably more!

a short drive to a wonderful spot - the Four Stones of Gwytherin and another short drive to Capel Garmon Chambered Tomb.

Ending the day with a longer drive to Bangor via Betws y Coed, up A5; if time and daylight permit, a couple of sites very close to the route.

Staying at a Youth Hostel, not far from where the Llandegai Henges, Cursus & Ancient Settlement once were.

Sunday 12th

Onto Anglesey, South Eastern corner: will take in St Seiriol's Holy Well, with neighbouring Penmon Priory & ancient crosses

Written permission is granted to visit the standing stones at Cremlyn ; awaiting permission to visit the Hendefor collapsed dolmens

Din Sylwy (aka Bwrdd Arthur) Iron Age Hillfort, Romano-British Settlement

Maybe one or two other sites in this SE Corner of Anglesey if time permits.

We will be taking in The Gop Neolithic Cairn and caves en route back along N Wales

Should time permit, we could also take in Maen Achwyfan - a spectacular wheeled cross and maybe St Winefride's Well (small admission charge applies)
