Country: Austria Researchers in Austria have discovered graves containing the remains of three human infants buried nearly 30,000 years ago, complete with poignant decorations that shed new light on our forebears' ritual practices.

Graves containing the remains of Stone Age adults have been discovered in recent decades, but burial sites of very young children have been difficult to find. That has led experts to wonder whether newborns were not accorded full status as community members and were not ritually buried in those days, when it may have been common for infants to succumb in the first weeks or months of life.
