On a recent venture to explore some of the cup and ring stones around Skyreholme, near Grassington in North Yorkshire, a brand new - or rather, very old - sort of design was found by writer and rock-art specialist, Paul Bennett, on one of the many rocks in the Burhill Ridge Field, a short distance northeast of the village.


Found on the underside of a large boulder to the far east of the field - close to where much lime-extraction occurred in the 17th and 18th centuries - it seems that this is the only carving of its kind in this part of the country. Parallels were drawn with the same designs carved on one of the uprights at Stonehenge.

Further exploratory investigations in this region are planned for the near future, in an attempt to work out whether the carving exists in isolation - or whether similar designs exist nearby.
