Aska has let us know about the first comprehensive book about megaliths of Britiain and Ireland to be published in Japan. I got on to the author Hideharu, who was keen to tell us about his book: "My first trip to the British Isles was in 1993 to Ireland. Next, to Scotland in 1998 and I was very much impressed by the stone circles of Callanish, and the Ring of Brodgar.

I am an graphic designer and a photographer. I've been interested in ancient culture from my boyhood but didn't know much about the megaliths of Britain and Ireland. There has been very limited information in Japan about them.

My first trip to Ireland and Scotland was mainly for 'Celtic culture' and traditional music. My wife and I were great fans of 70's new trad music such as Pentangle, Ann Briggs, Steele eye span, Planxty...

After the trip to Scotland, I began visiting and taking photos of megalithic ruins of the British Isles and Pictish slabs for several years.

My book, 'Megaliths; visiting ancient Britain and Ireland' is the first comprehensive book about megaliths of British Isles in Japan. The book is full of photos but also I wrote very much. I tried to introduce academic opinions, historical records, legends, neo pagan and wicca approaches, astronomical hypothesis...., as much information as I could find about the megaliths Britain and Ireland.

The book is mainly in Japanese but you can read the titles. I am very much interested in Pictish slabs too, and Mayan civilization, and other archeological sites.

This does look like a very well put together book, great photo's too. It would be nice to see it translated into English.
