A Stone Age man found perfectly preserved in the Alps by two mountaineers may have been a victim of human sacrifice, a scientist claims.

The Iceman has fascinated scientists and the general public since he was found high in the Alps with an arrow in his back, buried in a shallow trench filled with ice and dirt.

The Neolithic man was wearing a bearskin hat, a belt with an axe and was carrying an unfinished bow and a quiver of arrows when he died, lying undiscovered for 5,300 years until being found in 1991.
