EventsCountry: EnglandUnmanned 'free entry' sites such as most of English Heritage's prehistoric sites will be unaffected. Stonehenge is also unaffected and will remain open seven days a week apart from the usual holiday closures. The Alexander Keiller Museum at Avebury will remain open as this is part of the National Trust. English Heritage have also announced that fourteen properties previously completely closed during the winter period will now be open on winter weekends.
These closures are of course bad news for English Heritage Members wanting to use their memberships all year round. It will also hit educational visiting, and while pre-booked free educational visits will still be available at 24 of the most popular sites for school visits on Mondays and Fridays throughout November 2011 and March 2012, they are urging schools to book now at guarantee free entry to English Heritage sites during this summer and summer 2012 as these times are likely to be more popular than ever.
