A press release from the Peak District National Park states that Members of the Authority's Planning Committee today called for a further report before deciding whether to take action that could lead to the removal of protestors from two quarries on Stanton Moor.

The protestors have been campaigning against the proposed re-opening of the Endcliffe and Lees Cross quarries for over three years. In February, the Authority agreed not to take legal action against them. They had hoped the matter would be resolved once the application to re-open the dormant quarries had been determined.

However, Stancliffe Stone Ltd, the company making the application, asked for more time to collect and submit information, which means a decision on the quarries' future is expected to be at least six months away.

Following requests from local people, including the Stanton Action Group, the Parish Council and others, members of the Planning Committee re-visited the site and agreed they should look again at whether the protestors' camp is breaking planning laws.

John Bull, Chair of the Planning Committee, said, "Our first job remains protecting the National Park and the real issue on Stanton Moor is whether these quarries should be re-opened. However, we need to consider all aspects relating to this proposal and that is why we have asked for a further report to be prepared."

The matter is likely to be discussed at the Planning Committee's meeting on 25 July.
