'Chronicles of Ancient Darkness' tipped as Harry Potter's stone age rivals

Set 6,000 years ago 'Chronicles of Ancient Darkness' is tipped to be the next best selling childrens book series. The author, Michelle Paver, is reported to have signed a £1.5 million deal to produce six books.

The location will be a vast primeval forest populated by small groups of hunter-gatherers where 'natural magic' ("the magic you find ancient peoples practised and the magic inside your head") is used rather than by waving Potter's wand.

Film companies are said to be interested and the first book - Wolf Brother - will be published in 2005.

OK, wolf brother was a great book, the beining is pretty sad and i read it in 3 days and it will make you never want to put it down!! I cant wait till the 2nd book comes ou! 11yr old person

When I read Wolf Brother I could hardly keep my nose out of it.I thought it was way better then any of the Harry Potter books and as a harry potter fan I find it hard to belive!The book made me really love wolves and they are now competing as my favorite animal against the horse.

i read wolf brother within two days i loved it .the story line is thrilling and it keeps you on your toes . this tale is magic it enchance the mind by taking you back 6,000 years deep into the forest .by the end of the book i felt as though i new torah and could feel his strain when he was carying the rivers eyes . renn was an amazing person ,she was brave and smart she all ways used her wits . but my favourite charecter was wolf ,it upset me at the start were wolf didnt realise his pack was dead ,he thourght they was angery with him . if you havent read this book you should

i have read wolf brother and i think it is a great book, far better than any other book i have read!! i would like to know when the second book spirit walker will be coming out, because i am too excited to wait. i think this book is way better than the harry potter ones. if they make a film out of wolf brother they leave harry potter in the ditch!!!

Wolf Brother is infact available now not in 2005 as the review says. the second int he series is set to be publisjed in 05 and im telling you i cant wait! Wolf brother is a fantastic book! the mixture of fact and fiction makes the story more life like and real! I read in the bakc of wolf brother that the author actually spent time in various forests and other environments to gaoin valuable insight into the environment he was creatingin his book.

    Firstly the authors a woman not a man and yeh ur wolf brother is a fnatastic book and i cant wait either i've been to south africa myself and the way she describes everythin is actually so real its like ur actually there i just hope the next in the series comes out soon.

Ho Hum

Been Done. There was a series of books by Jean M. Auel under the "Earth's Children" banner: "Clan of the Cave Bear" (A really excellent novel), "The Valley of Horses", "The Mammoth Hunters" and "The Plains of Passage" are the four books published so far.

These books are set further back than the 'Chronicles of Ancient Darkness' and feature the adventures of young woman who travels fom the near east to France. The series tapers off but starts really well.

I will read it, but if it is being aimed at the Harry Potter audience I don't hold out much hope. If it does stay true to itself then it may be worth a read. Wher HP scored was that it was accessible to children and adults, one hope these books will do the same.

    There's a fifth Jean Auel book out now - The Shelters of Stone. An absolute class read, set in the south of france, beautifully researched, she brings that world alive.

    I'm 30 and I thought Wolf Brother was an excellent read, in fact from around half way through I could barely put it down. Good characters, good story, good ending. I'm looking forward to reading book 2 'The Spirit Walkers' some time in the next 6 months or so. Can't see why anyone would bring Harry Potter into this, as far as I can see the only thing they have in common is being well written and aimed at children but accessable to adults.

Gentlemen: the "magic inside your head" is something that only I was aware of, nothing that was taught or handed down (I am a native american) but rather, has been in my consciousness since I can remember, it has just been there, leaving me only to wish I could practice same.

CHRONICLES OF ANCIENT DARKNESS

NEW YORK (September 23, 2003)--HarperCollins Children’s Books today announced that it has acquired U.S. rights to publish the CHRONICLES OF ANCIENT DARKNESS, a dazzling new six-book series of historical fiction by Michelle Paver, an award-winning British author and first-time children’s novelist. Alix Reid, Vice President and Editorial Director at HarperCollins Children’s Books, negotiated this major deal with Fiona Kennedy, Publisher of Orion Children’s Books, UK.

Wow! I was just wondering when Playmobil might be persuaded to make a whole range of prehistoric Playmobil including perhaps a
plastic Stonehenge?!

They even had a one-off Caveman/Stone Age person (sadly no longer
available) that I have on display safely away from sticky fingers.

Playmobil Vikings are very popular with our little ones. Our favourite
is the Sea Serpent.

What other toy or game tie ins could you imagine?

      Not to be frank, but that does not look like it belongs to The Chronicles of Ancient Darkness. Being a fanatic of the book series, to me looks like it takes place before the Chronicles of Ancient Darkness.
