Then, after describing a small change to the position of the Order of Bards, Ovates and Druids, Mr Ellison called the inquiry to an end.
It was the afternoon of Tuesday May 11, 2004, and Mr Ellison had heard more than 60 people give evidence in person and ploughed through a further 1,500 written submissions.
He thanked those who had made presentations on traffic flow and burial mounds and set off to pore over the 5,000 pages of transcripts and their numerous supporting documents.
Eight months later, in January 2005, Mr Ellison presented his findings, which seemed to draw to a close more than a decade of wrangling between road-builders, archaeologists and conservationists.
