St Mylor Churchyard Cross  Ancient Cross  England  Cornwall  Visited  30th May 2023  3  4  4  Massive stone cross with very faint carvings across the front and back. The church guide pamphlet puts it's height at 17'6" with 7ft still underground, as well as calling it the tallest of it's kind in Cornwall. It has a very faint carving at the top of three concentric circles and on the other side...

Mylor  Holy Well or Sacred Spring  England  Cornwall  Visited  30th May 2023  4  5  4  Gorgeous and quiet well with a very storied church close by.
St Mary's Cross  Ancient Cross  England  Cornwall  Visited  27th May 2023  2  4  4  Despite being clearly destroyed/damaged it's still a lovely stone with a nice view out of the churchyard to the sea.
Penzance Market Cross  Ancient Cross  England  Cornwall  Visited  27th May 2023  3  3  5  Lovely market cross with carvings on one side (one appears to be a little guy). Easy to access with a cafe right beside it up a few steps.
Lanyon Quoit  Portal Tomb  England  Cornwall  Visited  19th Feb 2023  4  4  4  Lovely quoit as usual, didn't get a chance to check out the old cist remainds behind it yet again though.
Bosiliack Barrow  Chambered Tomb  England  Cornwall  Visited  19th Feb 2023  4  5  2  Much, much easier to find during winter with all the vegetation dying back! Easily visible over the tops of the vegetation.
Boskednan stone circle  Stone Circle  England  Cornwall  Visited  19th Feb 2023  3  5  1  A long walk but worth it - stunning circle despite being a few stones short.
Boskednan Menhir 1  Standing Stone (Menhir)  England  Cornwall  Visited  19th Feb 2023  2  4  1  A very sad little stump, it's ambience is definitely enhanced by the Boskednan stone circle behind it.
Boskednan A  Cairn  England  Cornwall  Visited  19th Feb 2023  2  4  1  Hard to find from a distance but once you're in it you figure out what it is fairly quickly.
Men Scryfa  Early Christian Sculptured Stone  England  Cornwall  Visited  19th Feb 2023  3  4  2  Still a great stone, tried to take a rubbing of the carvings but didn't manage too.
Men-An-Tol  Holed Stone  England  Cornwall  Visited  19th Feb 2023    4  3  The considerable die back during winter means it's easy to see this site from the boskednan stone circle.
Boskednan Menhir 2  Standing Stone (Menhir)  England  Cornwall  Visited  19th Feb 2023  3  5  2  Very much with a lean to it, initially thought it was part of the cairn.
Four Parishes Rock  Sculptured Stone  England  Cornwall  Visited  19th Feb 2023  3  4  2  Gorgeous stone with the most obvious cross on top, with a second cross on the south side and carvings beneath it.
Higher Boscaswell Well  Holy Well or Sacred Spring  England  Cornwall  Visited  1st Feb 2023  3  3  5  Did not intend to find this - saw it while walking along a track that's used as an access road to various points. Gorgeous well with easy access to view it from the road, and solid steps to go down to the water level.
Boslow Cross  Ancient Cross  England  Cornwall  Visited  1st Feb 2023  4  3  3  Two options for access - via a long trail from a road that seems to be used by vehicles frequently, or an incredibly muddy slog on a trial that continues across a road to The Gump in the other direction. Visited after there'd been some considerable lichen growth and couldn't entirely see the carving...

Portheras Barrow  Round Barrow(s)  England  Cornwall  Visited  1st Feb 2023  3  4  4  Quite easy to reach from a trail start right near a road, gorgeous barrow with a chambered area that's almost invisible until you're on top of the barrow or at the right angle outside of the stone perimiter.
Chun Quoit  Chambered Cairn  England  Cornwall  Visited  1st Feb 2023  4  5  2  Visted Lanyon Quoit many times but this was my first time here - absolutely stunning example of a quoit. Humbling to consider this was considered ancient by the folks that built the hill fort, spent a lot of time sitting and trying to take stone rubbings of it.
Chun Castle  Hillfort  England  Cornwall  Visited  1st Feb 2023  2  5  2  Stunning hill fort, very windy during winter.
Boswens Menhir  Standing Stone (Menhir)  England  Cornwall  Visited  1st Feb 2023  4  5  3  Stunning Menhir standing out alone close to The Gump (Woon Gumpus Common) - I expect it to get a lot more foot traffick after Enys Men, however during my visit it was absolutely empty and nobody around for kilometers.
Helland House Ancient Cornish Cross  Ancient Cross  England  Cornwall  Visited  29th Jan 2023  3  2  5  Lovely little cross, didn't mean to find it but stumbled across it on a walk.
St Nicholas's Cathedral (Newcastle)  Ancient Cross  England  Tyne and Wear  Visited  1st Nov 2022  3  4  4  A lot of rocks in one cathedral! Many carved rocks propped against various walls - some near the crypt and some directly across in one of the small enclaves. Wonderful carvings, a personal favourite is one of a sword handle & cross guard. Cathedral itself is stunning with gorgeous stained glass piec...

St Andrew's Church (Gallowgate)  Early Christian Sculptured Stone  England  Tyne and Wear  Visited  1st Dec 2022  3  3  4  Lovely carved rock but very hard to find, need to have a good look in the floor for it.
Great North Museum (Rock Art)  Museum  England  Tyne and Wear  Visited  31st Oct 2022  3  3  5  Great collection of carved rock art. Quite small but all are labled with as much provenance information as possible, some gorgeous examples of cup & ring marks.
Great North Museum (Anglo Saxon Stones)  Museum  England  Tyne and Wear  Visited  31st Oct 2022  3  4  5  Great collection of items - some were removed for the Lindisfarne Gospells exhibition in the Laing Art Gallery. (We had also visited that & they are absolutely stunning examples of carved crosses).
Great North Museum  Museum  England  Tyne and Wear  Visited  31st Oct 2022  3  4  5  Fab museum with a plentiful amount of pieces inside - both older neolithic axes & newer pieces and artefacts from Hadrians wall. Fully reccomend it to anyone in the area since it's a great place to visit.
Hedda Stone  Early Christian Sculptured Stone  England  Cambridgeshire  Visited  28th Nov 2022  3  4  5  Delightful stone in a stunning cathedral. Had to ask at the informational desk if I could see it due to a flower show but the staff are friendly and all too eager to show it to visitors. There's still a lot of mystery surrounding it apparently, and it's not the only stone of it's age in the church -...

The Ponteland Boulder  Rock Art  England  Tyne and Wear  Visited  31st Oct 2022  3  3  4  Lovely rock right outside of the Hancock museum, didn't even see it at first but on exiting the museum it's obvious with an accompanying marker.
Rocky Valley  Carving  England  Cornwall  Visited  13th Oct 2022  4  5  3  Stunning examples of Rock Carvings, regardless of the age. Worth a visit with a cloutie tree near by too.
St Gerrans church cross  Ancient Cross  England  Cornwall  Visited  17th May 2022  3  4  5
St Stithians Churchyard Cross  Ancient Cross  England  Cornwall  Visited  23rd Aug 2022  4  3  5  Lovely cross situated on a granite plinth that isn't original to it. Church notice board has some information on it - originally called the Seaureaugh Cross, it was removed from the mill with the same name in 1910 with permission from Captain William Frances Tremayne.
The Selus Stone  Early Christian Sculptured Stone  England  Cornwall  Visited  4th Aug 2022  4  4  5  Absolutely gorgeous stone with bright clear carvings. There's a informational card at the base of the stone for local insight into how it came to be in the church. The church itself is also absolutely stunning with two stone crosses in its gardens and old wall paintings within the church that surviv...

Sueno's Stone  Class III Pictish Cross Slab  Scotland  Moray  Visited  2nd Jul 2022  3  3  5  Gorgeous stone with absolutely oustanding carvings, the glass case makes for difficult photos but the informational plaques are outstanding.
Auldearn Stone Circle  Stone Circle  Scotland  Highlands  Saw from a distance  29th Jul 2022  3  3
Brodie  Class II Pictish Symbol Stone  Scotland  Moray  Visited  29th Jul 2022  4  4  5  Gorgeous stone that’s very easy to find with the driveway to Brodie castle going right past it, makes for fab access. There’s an info plaque that’s brief but still great, ogham is unfortunately incredibly faded away.
Barrowfields  Barrow Cemetery  England  Cornwall  Visited  15th Jul 2022  2  3  4  A very easy to access site (and one that I'd consider hidden in plain sight - driven past many times and not realised the history of the area). Sight from top of one of the barrows is gorgeous and from there it is easy to spot the other two further along. Has an information board on the way in if c...

Feock Holy Well  Holy Well or Sacred Spring  England  Cornwall  Visited  17th May 2022  4  4  3  Short walk down a right of way, was very overgrown when I visted but still lovely to see. The pump is a very good marker of where it is, since without knowing it was already there and what to look for I could've walked right past.
Feock Church Cross  Ancient Cross  England  Cornwall  Visited  17th May 2022  5  3  4  Lovely cross! Easy to get too via well cared for footpaths and near a very lovely lychgate.
St Mawe's Well  Holy Well or Sacred Spring  England  Cornwall  Visited  17th May 2022  5  3  5  Lovely well! Shame the door was locked, holding a phone camera up to the gaps in the door there's some view but I would've loved to see what it's like open. The door carving is delightful and in great condition, and a plaque on the wall states it's been there since the 6th Century.
Ventongassick  Holy Well or Sacred Spring  England  Cornwall  Visited  17th May 2022  4  1  5  Very risky if care is not taken - cars whip by increidbly fast. Lovely well with steps going down, the water is audiable even running deeper than the well walls suggest. Take care when wet - leaves make it slippy :-)
St Just's Well  Holy Well or Sacred Spring  England  Cornwall  Visited  17th May 2022  5  5  3  Gorgeous well! Route I took was very slippery (heavy rain all day), but on a dry day seems like it'd be a lovely walk. Follow signs from church :-)
Mabe Church  Standing Stone (Menhir)  England  Cornwall  Visited  16th May 2022  4  4  4  Quite lovely stone, easy to find right by the church!
Truro Cathedral Celtic Cross  Early Christian Sculptured Stone  England  Cornwall  Visited  27th Dec 2021  4  3  5
Camborne Cross  Ancient Cross  England  Cornwall  Visited  31st Jan 2022  3  3  5  Easy to find in the town centre! Viewable through fencing.
Killivose Cross  Ancient Cross  England  Cornwall  Visited  31st Jan 2022  3  3  5  Easy to find right outside the Wesleyan Chapel, some road parking.
St Ia's Cross  Ancient Cross  England  Cornwall  Visited  31st Jan 2022  3    5  Easy to find and access thanks to wide graveyard paths - wonderful stone :-).
Maen Cadoar  Standing Stone (Menhir)  England  Cornwall  Visited  31st Jan 2022  4  3  4  Lovely stone that's easy to find and prominent compared to it's surroundings. Area was roped off during my visit so could not get too close on the grass.
King Doniert's Stone  Ancient Cross  England  Cornwall  Visited  3rd Jul 2021  3  3  5  Very brief stop - easily accesible by car (just over a stile into the enclosure from a layby). Gorgeous stones with an information panel installed to give some light history on them and a translation of the inscriptions. Very worth a stop by.
The Hurlers  Stone Circle  England  Cornwall  Visited  3rd Jul 2021  4  3  4  Visited during an overcast day, but still an impressive site. Lots of sheep about which are cute but also a reason to mind where you step. The site is accessible via a footpath and has a car park close by in the town of Minions.
Bosiliack Barrow  Chambered Tomb  England  Cornwall  Visited  22nd Sep 2021  4  5  2  Gorgeous spot, quiet and high enough for a view across Penwith. Has a very wonderful 'vibe' to it, old and quiet and the same contemplative place as a modern graveyard. Bit of a pain to find as it's low to the ground and grassy, but not impossible if you follow the track.
Bosullow Quoit  Modern Stone Circle etc  England  Cornwall  Visited  22nd Sep 2021  5  3  5  A surprise little quoit statue(?)! Wasn't an intentional find, a friend and I saw it on the walk down to Morvah to catch a bus, but a wonderful one.
Men Scryfa  Early Christian Sculptured Stone  England  Cornwall  Visited  22nd Sep 2021  5  3  3  Beautiful inscribed stone, though it does appear to be in a farmer's field. The inscribed markings are sometimes hard to see if it's overcast.
Men-An-Tol  Holed Stone  England  Cornwall  Visited  22nd Sep 2021  5  5  4  The third time I've visted the site, still as magical - to the north, but not far (I believe) of the stones under a bush is a small plastic box with a local schools story of how the stones arrived there. Wonderful little surprise! Of course, a friend and I went through the stone several times to ...
