Keep yourself updated with News, Announcements, Reviews and Events. It might not look much at the moment, but we'll be adding more free content to the little box on your screen, such as latest gallery thumbnails, latest forum posts, perhaps the latest headings from the Stones List. Give it a try. It's a small self-installing program called megalithic_setup.exe that you download and run. This is a completely standard Windows application, which creates a folder by default in C:Program FilesMegalithic News, a link in your Start Menu and an Uninstaller. It doesn't contain anything unsavoury, doesn't send any information back to us, and has been carefully checked for viruses, but as always with these things, you are responsible for virus checking on your computer, etc. See the small print in the 'About' section of the program. This news ticker has been kindly created for us by Adremluk of www.wicca.ws . Check out their World Pagan News Ticker which you can also download from us. In an apparent reversal of the secular ethos of our culture, forgotten holy wells are being made to flow again, old stones are discovered and protected, and pilgrim paths are being trodden once more. At the same time, research into sacred space is the subject of enquiries from a number of disciplines, both academic and amateur - amongst them, the one known as geomancy, or earth mysteries. This is a study of books and articles published over a period of five years which may be of interest to geomantic researchers. Needles of Stone, when it was first published in 1978, was a seminal breakthrough book - at least, to me. It proposed a genuine purpose for stone circles, standing stones and megalithic remains of all kinds, creating a vivid picture of the culture of ancient megalithic times. It drew a parallel between geomancy and acupuncture. It was also a fascinating book on dowsing and its results in earth mysteries research. Helping us come to grips with this reality is Danebury: Ritual and Religion in the Iron Age, the latest video offering on our public education website, The Archaeology Channel (http://www.archaeologychannel.org). Danebury, one of Iron Age Britain's most significant and impressive hillforts, was built and occupied during the First Millennium BC. In 1969, Professor Barry Cunliffe began an unprecedented 20-year-long excavation of Danebury, which he discusses in this film. Professor Miranda Green, a renowned specialist in prehistoric beliefs, discusses the religious significance of the many finds and burials from the site. Stunning computer-generated graphics help bring the remarkable story of Danebury Hillfort and its Iron Age builders to life. Uruguay's rich history spans more than 11,000 years. On the wetlands of Rocha, declared by UNESCO as one of the most diverse environments on Earth, mound-building people thrived 4000 years ago. They built planned villages, made pottery and other tools, grew corn, squash, beans, and tubers, and developed an elaborate belief system. In Living Memory Wed 27 Nov, 11:00 - 11:30 30 mins Roisin McAuley looks back to the summer of 1985, and the violent clash between police and members of the 'peace convoy' intent on going to an illegal pop festival at Stonehenge. Wiltshire police blockaded roads to Stonehenge in an attempt to prevent the convoy of over 100 old buses and trucks getting to the monument. The convoy members escaped into a beanfield where they were effectively trapped. The police announced that they wanted to interview all 500 members of the convoy to see who had been responsible for the theft of petrol from a service station earlier in the day. When the hippies refused to leave their vehicles, riot police were sent in. Scenes of extraordinary violence followed. Eventually 530 people were arrested - the biggest mass arrest in British history, ultimately hardly any faced prosecution, and members of the convoy won civil damages against the police some years later Can now be downloaded and heard on http://groups.yahoo.com/group/stonehengeentertainmentsdiscussion/ look in the files section also recommend the photos section for those who haven´t seen it.
