The Megalithic Portal meets Google Earth  Popular
Description: Here is a download of the locations of all the tens of thousands of prehistoric and other ancient sites we have listed on the Megalithic Portal, with summary descriptions and thumbnail image, where available. You will need to download, install and run the Google Earth application first. http://earth.google.com (If you already have it installed, you will need to upgrade to version 4 if you want to use this file, due to the many 'foreign' characters in the European sites.) Once installed, download our file above and do a File/Open to open the file in Google Earth. Another innovation from the Megalithic Portal. Thanks to everyone who's contributed to this. The contents of this file are copyright, it is for personal use only and is not for use outside of Google Earth without permission, please ask. No warranty is given as to the accuracy or suitability of this data - ie. please don't try to fly any planes or aim any missiles with it! Let us know how you get on with it, and please submit corrections, updates and new text and images for inclusion back at the Megalithic Portal site pages that are linked.

  Megalithic Portal News Ticker  Popular
Description: Keep an eye on the latest ancient news (!) from the Megalithic Portal whenever you feel like it.

Keep yourself updated with News, Announcements, Reviews and Events. It might not look much at the moment, but we'll be adding more free content to the little box on your screen, such as latest gallery thumbnails, latest forum posts, perhaps the latest headings from the Stones List. Give it a try.

It's a small self-installing program called megalithic_setup.exe that you download and run. This is a completely standard Windows application, which creates a folder by default in C:Program FilesMegalithic News, a link in your Start Menu and an Uninstaller. It doesn't contain anything unsavoury, doesn't send any information back to us, and has been carefully checked for viruses, but as always with these things, you are responsible for virus checking on your computer, etc. See the small print in the 'About' section of the program.

This news ticker has been kindly created for us by Adremluk of www.wicca.ws . Check out their World Pagan News Ticker which you can also download from us. You are very welcome to include links to either of these tickers, or offer them as downloads from your web site.

Research in Geomancy - Readings in Sacred Space 1990 - 94  Popular
Description: Many people today care about sacred places, and want to know more about them. In an apparent reversal of the secular ethos of our culture, forgotten holy wells are being made to flow again, old stones are discovered and protected, and pilgrim paths are being trodden once more. At the same time, research into sacred space is the subject of enquiries from a number of disciplines, both academic and amateur - amongst them, the one known as geomancy, or earth mysteries. This is a study of books and articles published over a period of five years which may be of interest to geomantic researchers.

Needles of Stone by Tom Graves  Popular
Description: A recommendation from the publisher... Needles of Stone, when it was first published in 1978, was a seminal breakthrough book - at least, to me. It proposed a genuine purpose for stone circles, standing stones and megalithic remains of all kinds, creating a vivid picture of the culture of ancient megalithic times. It drew a parallel between geomancy and acupuncture. It was also a fascinating book on dowsing and its results in earth mysteries research.

Danebury: Ritual and Religion in the Iron Age  Popular
Description: Lifeways and belief systems in Britain 2,500 years ago are as alien to us today as any exotic culture anywhere in the world. Helping us come to grips with this reality is Danebury: Ritual and Religion in the Iron Age, the latest video offering on our public education website, The Archaeology Channel (http://www.archaeologychannel.org). Danebury, one of Iron Age Britain's most significant and impressive hillforts, was built and occupied during the First Millennium BC. In 1969, Professor Barry Cunliffe began an unprecedented 20-year-long excavation of Danebury, which he discusses in this film. Professor Miranda Green, a renowned specialist in prehistoric beliefs, discusses the religious significance of the many finds and burials from the site. Stunning computer-generated graphics help bring the remarkable story of Danebury Hillfort and its Iron Age builders to life. This download can be purchased as a VHS video from Andover Museum of the Iron Age: phone 01264 366283
