Rybury Camp submitted by Andy B : Tan Hill from Rybury Hillfort. In the foreground is the flat path which runs around prehistoric Rybury. The path is flanked in most areas by earthworks. The fort is an Iron Age camp built upon a Neolithic Hillfort and within the ring it is extremely hummocky and has numerous burrows. The path in the distance leads up to Tan Hill and the Wansdyke runs E-W over the skyline. Copyright Colin Sm... (Vote or comment on this photo)

Causwayed Camp

From Pastscape:

"Fairly well-preserved earthworks of a Neolithic causewayed enclosure, which comprises two circuits of causewayed bank and ditch plus a separate causewayed 'cross-dyke' outwork. A trial trench cut in 1963 found flint flakes and animal bones, while Neolithic sherds have also been found at the site. The Iron Age hillfort (SU 06 SE 63) and Post Medieval flint or chalk extraction (SU 06 SE 64) have been recorded separately. In 1995, the earthworks at Rybury were surveyed by RCHME as part of a national project to record industry and enclosure in the Neolithic. The causwayed enclosure has been recorded on aerial photographs dating from the 1920's to the present."

Hillfort

From Pastscape:

"Fairly well preserved earthworks of probable Late Bronze Age or Iron Age univallate hillfort. The hill also features a Neolithic causewayed enclosure (SU 06 SE 14) and Post Medieval chalk or flint extraction (SU 06 SE 64). The earthworks at Rybury were surveyed by RCHME in 1995."
