Cairn on Dartmoor, Devon

Featured on the Prehistoric Dartmoor Walks website as Hillson's House Cairn and in their Stalldown Stone Row [Photo Set 2] entries, this site is described as: "On the summit of Stalldown barrow is a large flat-toped cairn around 17.5m across. The cairn has been damaged by the construction of shelters within it - hence it is known as Hillson's House."

Pastscape Monument 442217 adds that this is "the ruins of a square erection built on Stalldown Barrow .... at 415 metres above OD (Ordnance Data)."

This cairn is also recorded as MDV4302 (Prehistoric Cairn at Stalldown Barrow with a small shelter known as 'Hillson's House' in the centre, Cornwood) on the Devon and Dartmoor HER, which adds that the "vegetation (surrounding) suggests ditch. Size and prominent position on Stalldown indicate it has always been a significant landmark." It is also scheduled as Historic England List Entry No. 1012712 (Hillson's House cairn, Stalldown).
