Anne T visited on 13th Jul 2018 - their rating: Cond: 3 Amb: 4 Access: 5 Peterhead Farm Standing Stone, Gleneagles: Our last stop of the day. Driving (it was too hot, and we were too lazy to walk) further along the single track road towards the mast and the entrance to Peterhead Farm, we parked near the mast and walked across the road. The nearest gate into the field appeared to be near the farm buildings, so we clambered over the wooden fence at the corner of the road with the farm track. This standing stone looks as if it sits just below the top of a natural mound. There were quite a few packing stones around the base of the stone, with others scattered around the ground nearby.

Gleneagles A
Gleneagles A submitted by hamish : I took this picture, including the phone mast erectors, and ran out of film so couldn't take another one. Maybe another time. Interesting stone though, there are some markings on the right side. (Vote or comment on this photo)
Standing Stone/Pictish Symbol Stone in Perthshire

The Northern Antiquarian (TNA) features two entries for this stone and it's companion, Gleneagles B, which is a couple of hundred metres away. See Gleneagles ‘A’, Blackford, Perthshire for directions on how to find this stone together with a brief archaeology & history and photographs.

Canmore ID 25924 gives details of both stones, which are to be found at NN 9243 0981 and NN 9211 0962. For stone A, to be found at NN 9211 0962, Canmore says: "('A') Standing stone, somewhat cylindrical in form and tilted towards the west, 3ft 10ins high. Similar to 'B' but has no artificial markings."

Gleneagles A submitted by Anne T : Standing just south of the stone looking back at the minor road which runs parallel with the A9 and leads past Peterhead Farm. This face of the stone looks as if it has been caught with a machine or tractor part way up, but a long time ago judging by the way it has weathered. (Vote or comment on this photo)

Gleneagles A
Gleneagles A submitted by Anne T : Standing at the corner of the minor road and the entrance to Peterhead Farm, this stone looks somewhat isolated in the landscape. The nearest gate (that we could see) was down the lane, near the farm buildings, so we climbed over the wooden fence at the corner of the field.

The names of these stones, Gleneagles A and B, were the opposite to those on the Canmore record, going by their NGRs and stone names, so I've changed the SID page names to match and swapped the photos on both pages.

However, I think the photographs submitted were muddled, and I've had a best guess at moving them to the right SID. I'll have another look over the weekend (28th/29th) to double check.

If anyone has visited this site and knows for definite which stone is which, if they could put a comment under the individual picture, and I'll swap it to the right page. Thanks!
