Chafurdão of Lancheiras is an ancient type of house originally built with unknown purposes. Was reused by farmers and shepherds as shelter. This mysterious monument is located in Vale da Venda, in the municipality of Castelo de Vide, from the Portalegre district. It is not yet classified.
About the architecture
Although these buildings are not so old in origin, the history behind these kind of ancient round houses remain a mystery. Very few were dated and some share the vicinity with antropomorphic rock cut graves. Their architecture is very similar with some old Iron Age houses of Portugal. To understand a little bit more of this types of construction check out the explanation at Chafurdão do Vale de Cales.
About the access
There is a signpost by the municipal road 1007 pointing to the site. You just need to enter by the access gate (don't forget to always close it behind you) and make a small walk through a dirt road. It's easy to spot it on the top of the hill. The views from this location are truly amazing. This monument is part of the Historic and Ambiental route of Castelo de Vide.

Aditional information:
- Follow the sign by the road.
- You are entering in private property but the access is possible.
- The entrance to the zone of the monument is blocked by walls and fences, they were essentially made to demarcate the land and not allow the escape of livestock. The access is possible by opening a gate through the fence.
- When entering in demarcated land never forget to close the access gate behind you, you need to be very aware of this rule because cattle can escape.
- Don't make fires and take your garbage with you, maintain the site clean for others to enjoy.
- There are no signs prohibiting us from entering so the access can be open but be careful when you explore every time you see this red plaques that alert you for the Hunting Zones. Remind yourself that usually hunters can only hunt at selected hunting days (Thursdays, Sundays and on public holidays).
