Anta do Sobral or Anta da Nave do Grou is a small dolmen or anta located in São João Baptista, in the municipality of Castelo de Vide from the Portalegre district. This monument was built in the Neo-Chalcolithic period and was implanted in a relatively isolated area surrounded by wild vegetation. The access is made from a small door in the wall that surrounds the property. There is a signpost indicating it. This monument is classified as MN - Monumento Nacional (National Monument).
About the architecture
Small anta with no corridor and with an irregular polygonal chamber. The monument consists of seven pillars made of granite that still remain in situ. The cover stone was replaced in May 1992 with the guidance of the locally well known archaeologist Jorge de Oliveira. The chamber was built in a circular shape. Part of the tumulus is still perceptable.
About the access
Info submitted by Magalhaes:
"On the road from Castelo de Vide to Portalegre, you are likely to notice the "Hotel Canino" signs better than the small brown one. Smallish anta, complete with top stone. Now (May) half covered by weeds. Jumping the wall is eased by appropriately placed stones."
Info submitted by Drew Parsons in April 2010:
"Anta do Sobral is a small dolmen easily located. Drive north from Castelo de Vide on the 246-1 and turn left (south) after 3 kilometres onto the bypass N246 towards Portalegre. Exactly 3 kilometres along this road there is a branch road turning right and the dolmen is accessed 50 metres down this side road. There is a sign here and it is an easy 50 metre walk across the field to the dolmen. A nice little dolmen!! The GPS coordinates at the anta taken on my hand held GPS in April 2010 were: 39.40015N and 07.49068W."

Aditional information:
- Follow the signs to get to the monument.
- You are entering in private property but the access is possible.
- The entrance to the zone of the monuments may be blocked by fences, they were essentially made to demarcate the land and not allow the escape of livestock. Usually there are spaces in the fences within these demarcated areas where the access is possible. When entering in demarcated land never forget to close the access gate of the location, you need to be very aware because cattle can escape.
- There are no signs prohibiting us from entering so the access can be open but be careful when you explore every time you see this red plaques that alert you for the Hunting Zones. Remind yourself that usually hunters can only hunt at selected hunting days (Thursdays, Sundays and on public holidays).
