We had no idea about it being an archeoastronomical site and were actually on our way to the Petrified Forest for witnessing the solstice sun dagger there.

Signing in at the visitor center is necessary,(a good little gift shop too which supports the site) and it's about 10-15 minute 3/4 mile walk to the petroglyph site. The rocks are dense with petroglyphs, some of which feature in an archaeo-astronomical event. I saw a token of this event in the afternoon of my visit on 15th August 2009.
Two deliberately placed and shaped stones above the panels cast shadow daggers across different glyphs, pointing to different marks at key times of the year. A lot more information on this (and more generally) is at the website http://www.sinaguasunwatchers.com/vbarv.htm
Although I didn't witness a key event, to see these shadows appear and work their way across the petroglyphs (which were thrill enough in themselves), was a very memorable time. A random collection of visitors and a member or two of staff over the long period we were here seemed to convene a strong, warm, congenial spirit talking about what we were experiencing.
Grid reference from GPS taken in the car park. Once visitors have signed in at the centre / shop, the petroglyphs are a 10 - 15 minute walk away.
Not far from Montezuma's Castle.
Note: Rock art / shadow interaction can be seen in the series of photos
