Pandu Lena Buddhist and Jain temple caves date from the 1st century BC through to 12th century AD and are located near Nashik, Maharashtra, India.
Pandu Lena caves are situated 8 kilometres south of Nashik, Maharashtra, India. They form one group amongst the numerous Buddhist and Jain carved cave temples built in India during the era when Buddhism and Jainism flourished in the region. Pandu Lena is also known as Pandavleni (leni being the local word for "caves"). There are 24 or more caves here depending on whose count one uses. The earliest date suggested is the first century BC based on style and similarities to the Karla caves also in Maharashtra State. Some caves are more recently dated, at around 1200 AD. Cave 18 is one of the most impressive with an ornamented portico and magnificent Buddhist and Jain statues and carvings. Many of the caves contain inscriptions some of which are still legible.
