Holne Ridge NE

Holne Ridge NE submitted by TheCaptain on 5th Oct 2010. I didn’t think I was going to be able to find this as the area it’s in is all covered by fern and bracken, but it was quite obvious once I got near. The cairn is well formed, about 7 metres in diameter about a metre tall with the expected hollow in the top.

Mont-Dol submitted by TheCaptain on 23rd Oct 2010. Mont Dol is a large granite rock outcrop, dramatically jutting up through the flat coastal marshlands of the Baie de Mont St-Michel to the north of the ancient city of Dol-de-Bretagne, and in some ways is rather like Mont St-Michel itself, although nowadays completely enclosed within farmed lands.

At the southeastern end, in a lowpoint before the ground rises again, there seems to be a single, fairly large triangular shaped stone placed across the central or northern row, which may once have been a blocking stone marking the proper end of the monument.

Bowda Stone Circle submitted by TheCaptain on 4th Dec 2010. I had never heard of a stone circle here until I saw the Pastscape entry here, so thought I’d better go and have a look. Certainly there are a couple of large side set slabs standing on edge here, with others fallen and laying about which could conceivably be remnants of a stone circle.
