Log Text: The survival of Barpa Langais in its almost intact state is due to its location on an isolated island. It is most unusual to have a dedicated car park and path leading to a well preserved chambered cairn. Barpa Langais was a highlight on my Hebridean tour.

I would recommend this route to anyone wishing to explore the Inner Hebrides by car.

It is easy to find Clach an t-Sagairt once you are on North Uist. Clachan Sands is on the B893, c. 3.2 miles S of the Berneray Causeway between North Uist & Berneray Take the signed Clachan Sands Cemetary turn. Log Text: When I visited Cladh Maolrithe Standing Stone I was on my way to the Callanish sites. This stone was an unplanned detour so I was not aware of the complexities of the site. Canmore suggests that this is the location of an old chapel and burial ground.

Log Text: Barnhouse Stone is surrounded by the Stones of Stenness, the Watch Stone and Maeshowe. This is tough company to compete with. It also implies it could be important to be erected in such an important area. The c. 10 feet tall stone slab stand in splendid isolation in an arable field c. 0.5 mile SE of the Stones of Stenness. It deserves to be visited.

Gurness

Gurness submitted by PAB on 11th Jan 2021. 4.45am, the beautiful glow lighting up the stones. Worth getting up for such an experience, only an hour's sleep lost, and so much gained! June 2016
(View photo, vote or add a comment)

Log Text: In most cases Antiquarians have to mentally reconstruct sites from several stones or grassy mounds. Gurness settlement is at the opposite end of the spectrum. There are multiple layers of occupancy preserved in an extensive network of stone walls representing exterior and interior features.

Isbister: Bronze Age House

Isbister: Bronze Age House submitted by LizH on 18th Nov 2004. Isbister bronze age house or burnt mound Probably a later site than the impressive tomb not far off. This was probably a boiling place, where hot stones were placed in water to cook.

Log Text: I visited this somewhat confusing site as part of the Tomb of the Eagles tour. At first sight, it looks like a domestic residence but it is though to be connected to industry.

Log Text: The Comet Stone is an intriguing site to visit because of its proximity to the Ring of Brodgar. It seems likely it had some relationship to the stone circle. The stone stumps on the mound add an extra layer of mystery.
