Standing stone in North Uist

A most complicated site this, Canmore says it's actually in a Cashel, like in Ireland. You can see part of the large ringwork that entirely surrounds the stone.

Cladh Maolrithe
Cladh Maolrithe submitted by SandyG : The stone stands at the eastern end of a small rectangular building which survives as an earthwork. View from the north east (Scale 1m). (Vote or comment on this photo)

Cladh Maolrithe
Cladh Maolrithe submitted by SandyG : Whilst this looks like a prehistoric standing stone it is much more likely to form part of a medieval chapel complex. View from north (Scale 1m). (Vote or comment on this photo)

Cladh Maolrithe
Cladh Maolrithe submitted by SandyG : View from above and south showing the enclosure in which the stone stands. It is of course possible, although perhaps not likely that the stone was erected in prehistoric times and attracted later interest. (Vote or comment on this photo)
