Log Text: Narrator Brookhead Cairn is a different animal to the kerb cairn on the WSW end of Down Tor Stone Row. It is a substantial mound retaining a covering of original stones. It is probable that it has been robbed to construct the enclosure c. 75 yards WSW. There is an intriguing recumbent stone c. 6 feet long located c. 15 yards NW of the cairn.

Log Text: It is always disappointing to realise that practical considerations take precedence over the sanctity of an ancient site. Somebody thought it was easier to vandalise a stone circle rather than alter the course of a field boundary. At least the Sherberton Stone Circle has survived in its somewhat ruined state.

Log Text: There are two main difficulties in visiting Stalldown Row and its associated cairns:
1. Navigating the maze of narrow roads to Stall Moor.
2. Finding a safe place to park up safely close to Stall Moor

Once you have completed these two tasks the walk to Stalldown Stone Row is a picnic.

Stalldon Row

Stalldon Row submitted by thecaptain on 22nd Sep 2006. The northern end of the row has 4 wonderful large (2 metres plus) stones still standing, which can be seen from miles away all over the southern moor, and look in many ways like walkers on the hilltop. Seen here looking to the north, the wild moorland stretches off into the distance.

Nine Stones (Altarnun)

Nine Stones (Altarnun) submitted by stonedowser on 1st Feb 2002. The circle at Altarnun is right out on the open moor and there is an excellent cairn circle not too far away, (if you can find it). As far as dowsing goes it is quite straightforward
(View photo, vote or add a comment)

Log Text: The flatness of the moor and the splendid isolation of Nine Stones (Altarnun) enhance this stone circle. One of the best sites in Cornwall!

Colquite Menhir

Date Added: 9th Jul 2025
Site Type: Standing Stone (Menhir) Country: England (Cornwall)
Visited: Yes on 11th Apr 2018

Colquite Menhir

Colquite Menhir submitted by TheCaptain on 7th Dec 2010. The stone is nearly 6 feet tall in a little enclosure type area where the walls go around it, which would seem unusual for many reasons.
(View photo, vote or add a comment)

Log Text: I passed by Colquite Standing Stone on the way to East Moor Cairns and Nine Stones of Altarnun. It certainly appears to be an ancient stone repurposed as a gate stone at one point. The fact that the stone wall detours around it emphasises its significance.
