York Roman remains submitted by jeffrep on 7th Apr 2020. The English city of York has, since Roman times, been defended with walls of one form or another. In 71 A.D., the Romans built a fort occupying about 50 acres on the banks of the River Ouse, and surrounded it with a rectangle of walls. The original fort was replaced in 108 A.D. by a massive stone structure with walls that survived the centuries.

Log Text: Wedding Rock (not Rocks) Petroglyph Site is located on Ozette Beach on the first rocky headland south of Cape Alava in Olympic National Park in the far northwestern corner of the State of Washington in the Pacific Northwest of the U.S. The site is superb as is its striking setting on the coast. There are more than 40 petroglyphs to be found at Wedding Rock, although not all are easily located. They are found on the large and small boulders forming a semi-circle around the base of the cliffs. Made by the inhabitants of Ozette Village at Cape Alava, one mile north of Wedding Rock. Most have been determined to be 300 to 500 years old, although some are of more recent origins, such as the petroglyph of a sailing ship from around 1800. They cover a wide variety of subjects.

Tusayan Ruins submitted by bat400 on 6th Aug 2006. Large Kiva at Tusayan Ruins, Coconino County, Arizona.
The Tusayan ruins at the Grand Canyon National Park show two separate circular ruins that may have been ceremonial rooms, or Kivas. The smaller one appeared to have burned, was made into some other sort of space. This is the foundation of the larger Kiva, seemingly built later that the first.
There was a firepit in the center of the room and an airshaft (seen in the rear wall.) This is a common feature of both historic Kivas, and simi...
