Country: England (Cornwall)
Visited: Yes on 13th May 2011. My rating: Condition 2 Ambience 3 Access 3

Boskednan A submitted by AngieLake on 15th Oct 2004. This view of the 'destroyed barrow'/cairn near Carn Galva, shows its alignment with Ding Dong mine on the horizon. Boskednan circle is on slightly lower ground not far from here, and on an alignment between the 'barrow'/cairn and the
mine building. The flat sides of the pointed stones face north/south. (This pic was taken at 4pm in March 2004).
The stones sit on a higher ridge at 227m.

Log Text: Not sure who designated this access as "5." It cannot be driven to nor is it a short stroll, but it is well worth the long walk. And its condition is not a "1," as someone designated, but at least a "3." Nearby are the remains of the 12th Century St. Piran's Lost Church and the buried 6th Century St. Piran's Oratory, thought to be one of the most ancient Christian foundations on mainland Britain, now designated by a marker.

Site Type: Stone Circle
Country: England (Devon)

Fernworthy circle submitted by AngieLake on 4th Nov 2005. The southeast-to-south arc of the circle, seen from inside its area, with the angular south stone at the right of pic. The left-hand stones of the main south row lead down towards the light green fir tree. In fact, there are many small stones lying in the coarse brownish grass, which are quite difficult to pick out as rows. 'Must try harder' next time - when it is drier weather!

Merry Maidens (Circle) submitted by JimChampion on 27th Oct 2006. August 2005. The Merry Maidens under fluffy white clouds. I rediscovered this photo and selectively manipulated the contrast so that you can now see the stones (previously they were too dark). I've uploaded a similar photo to Wikimedia Commons - they need pictures of ancient sites for use on free sites like Wikipedia.

Shovel Down Fourfold circle submitted by simcon on 29th Aug 2003. SX659861 Shovel Down Stone Circle, Dartmoor Devon. I see this Web site lists two circles here, SE and NW. I only saw this circle which matches the description of Shovel Down SE Stone Circle. The view is looking south where the row continues to a large standing stone. Notice the two large standing stones fallen at the bottom of this picture. One has CP carved into it and the large stone over the hill has DC using the same size and style of letters. I do not know what this means. I parked in Fernw...

The Longstone (Shovel Down) submitted by AngieLake on 14th Sep 2004. This lovely megalith is known as The Longstone and stands on the eastern slopes of Shovel Down at SX660857. A north/south avenue leads directly to it. Kes Tor, seen in the background, is NE of the Longstone. There are numerous stone rows in the vicinity, and Scorhill circle is not far away to the northeast.
According to Richard Cavendish's book 'Prehistoric England' (Artus Books, Orion Publishing 1983):
"SW of Kes Tor, on Shovel Down, SX660860, are stone rows leading to burial cairns and a 10...

Trevorgans Cross submitted by enkidu41 on 16th Nov 2004. This cross is not sympathetically placed having regard to the nearness of the A30 but, of course, the road would have been considerably narrower a 100 years ago.
