jeffrep visited on 18th May 2011 - their rating: Cond: 3 Amb: 5 Access: 3 Not sure who designated this access as "5." It cannot be driven to nor is it a short stroll, but it is well worth the long walk. And its condition is not a "1," as someone designated, but at least a "3." Nearby are the remains of the 12th Century St. Piran's Lost Church and the buried 6th Century St. Piran's Oratory, thought to be one of the most ancient Christian foundations on mainland Britain, now designated by a marker.

St Piran's Cross
St Piran's Cross submitted by AngieLake : Not the easiest cross to find, but well-worth it. I believe I read that this is the only three-holed cross in Cornwall, but it looks to me as if it just wasn't finished. This close-up was taken in June 2005, one sunny evening. Harder to find was nearby St Piran's Lost Oratory, now buried and marked with a slab of granite. From this cross, head towards the huge modern cross on the sand-dunes. The s... St Piran's Cross
St Piran's Cross submitted by AngieLake : The ancient cross of St Piran is very close to the ancient chapel that has recently been excavated. This will be shown next Monday (31st October 2005) on BBC westcountry programme 'Inside Out'. (1 comment - Vote or comment on this photo)

St Piran's Cross
St Piran's Cross submitted by AngieLake : This photo of St Piran's Cross will show how far away it is from the huge modern cross - a mere pinprick in the distance. If you compare this photo with the pic of St Piran's Lost Oratory's mound and stone memorial, you will see that the modern cross is quite a lot nearer there. From this you can guess at how far you'd have to walk to find it! (If you can't see the modern cross, look straight u...

St Piran's Cross
St Piran's Cross submitted by AngieLake : As I left the Oratory, heading back inland, I stopped on the top of the first slope to see if I could locate the Celtic Cross, and this is taken without zoom. The cross is visible dead centre here. A zoomed-in shot follows.
