Din Lligwy

Din Lligwy submitted by TimPrevett on 3rd Jul 2002. Lligwy Ancient Settlement SH497861 This settlement, NW from Moelfre and not far from the Lligwy burial chamber is huge! A short walk from parking space for maybe 3 cars, through woodland, this location can occupy a considerable amount of time exploring the nooks & crannies of this probable 4th century AD settlement.

Dinas Bran

Dinas Bran submitted by TimPrevett on 3rd Feb 2006. Dinas Bran, approaching twilight emerges through the mountain fog across from the Eglwysegs. On full size, this picture looks fine, but resizing, it suddenly goes very grainy. Anyway, we were hoping for a day of good visibility - but far from it! Instead thick fog, and ice hugging anything that stays still on the mountain for more than a couple hours! Very atmospheric.

Dinas Dinlle

Dinas Dinlle submitted by TimPrevett on 19th Apr 2007. The coastal fort of Dinas Dinlle. The western edge is steadily eroding into the sea - trying to peer at the exposed stratigraphy is a somewhat perilous pursuit! In other places, the beach pebbles making the core of the ramparts are visible. The site is a victim of its favourable position. Adjacent a family beach, a chip shop at its northern edge, and a pub or two not far away make it a very accessible and well visited place. The erosion on the northern path up is horrendous, even as I walk,...

Doddington Moor

Doddington Moor submitted by TimPrevett on 20th May 2010. Absolute nightmare to find - unplanned visit at the end of a surprisingly superb weather day. A 1:50000 map wasn't much help - the footpaths bore no resemblance to the map, so taking a grid ref from the map, and switching on the handheld GPS guided us here. At first I was disappointed with the place - just one stone remaining upright - but discovering several other stones, and enjoying the pre-sunset glow, it was a pleasing finish to the end of a wonderful day. 12/04/10.

Doll Tor submitted by TimPrevett on 20th Mar 2009. With friends and clients at Doll Tor. I hadn't been to any megalithic sites for months before this - being hired for the weekend to show them a small sample of the wonders of the Peak District just reminded me of my first love of history, and that I actually *need* to visit stones for my wellbeing. There's something about them (as I'm sure most visiting pages know...)

Dorchester, Tudor Arcade

Dorchester, Tudor Arcade submitted by TimPrevett on 3rd Nov 2003. When in Dorchester, I just had to check out the report in Bill Putnam's book "Dorset: The Prehistoric Age" that there were red markings in Waitrose Car Park, Dorchester, denoting sites of larger timber posts, which formed part of a timber circle. Quote "parts of a large timber circle have been discovered surrounding a projected area of around 380 metres in diameter. Apparently some 600 mature oak tree trunks would have been required for its construction. A radiocarbon date for it is about 210...

Druid Farm submitted by TimPrevett on 3rd Jul 2002. Druid Farm Standing Stone SH416751 Visited Tuesday 26th September 2000 South of RAF Mona; left off A5. This stone is another that had previously eluded me, but was pleased to have got it this time! A large layby on the left, so parking was easy. Take the gate into the 2nd field, and turn right. The stone(s) are parallel to the hedge on a rise. Two large stones lie a short distance from each other; I could not ascertain if they were once together but given their prostrate position, they ar...

Druids Circle (Penmaenmawr)

Druids Circle (Penmaenmawr) submitted by TimPrevett on 8th Apr 2004. When visiting Druids Circle, be prepared for the worst weather. Of the three times I have visited, the first two were the worst rain and wind I have ever experienced at any monument. Gratitude for warm weatherproof clothing was plentiful. Last week's visit (start of April) was the best for weather. There had been a short sharp shower, but the clouds showed their clear intent for something more, so I took this shot as we chose to depart. It is looking to the southwest, from the east side...
