Langstone Moor 2
Langstone Moor 2 submitted by Anne T : The Langstone Moor 2 cairn. It's cist has been removed and is in the Plymouth City Museum. Submitted on behalf of Prehistoric Dartmoor Walks. (Vote or comment on this photo)
Cairn in Devon (cist removed)

Information about the Langstone Moor 2 Cist comes from Prehistoric Dartmoor Walks (PDW) website and forms part of their "Langstone Moor Stone Circle, Stone Row & Settlements" walk. Their notes tell us the cist is now housed in the Plymouth City Museum, although the cairn can be seen from the photograph submitted with this page. Also see PDW's page for the Langstone Moor Stone Circle, Stone Row & Settlements

The PDW web page gives links to further information on Pastscape, Monument Number 439694, which confirms the cist has been removed, and records the following description: "a barrow, 11 feet in diameter and with the slight trace of a surrounding circle. The barrow is 1 ft high in the centre and is composed of small stones and earth. Near the centre, under a large flat stone was an undisturbed cist, measuring 21 inches long, 13 inches wide and 14 inches deep. The bottom was paved and the 'calm' which filled the cist contained wood charcoal and bone ash .... on the south east slope of Langstone Moor at approximately 447m OD."

The cairn is also recorded as MDV4593 (Round cairn 120 metres south-east of Langstone Moor stone circle) on the Devon and Dartmoor HER, and scheduled as part of Historic England List Entry No. 1018621 (Two round cairns 120m south-east of Langstone Moor stone circle).

Note: The cist which was originally within this cairn is now housed in Plymouth City Museum
